Wind Season
February–April: Santa Ana winds and gusty spring conditions. Wind turbines along I-10 near Palm Springs are functional, not decorative. Wind mitigation landscaping is popular.

Desert nights cool dramatically — 20–30°F temperature drops. Even in July, nights drop to 80–85°F. Winter nights (Dec–Jan) can dip to 38–45°F, though rarely freezing.

Car Needed
Yes — the Coachella Valley is very car-dependent. Most destinations require driving. A reliable, well-maintained vehicle with good A/C is essential.
Airport
Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) — 20 min from Palm Desert. Direct flights to major US and Canadian cities. LAX is 2–2.5 hours by car (Hwy 10).
Public Transit
SunLine Transit provides bus service throughout the valley. Routes connect Palm Springs to Coachella. Not practical for most residents but useful for commuters without cars.
Rideshare
Uber and Lyft are reliable in Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and La Quinta. Surge pricing during peak season and late nights. Limited availability in outer communities (Indio, Thermal).
Cycling
30+ miles of dedicated bike paths. Coachella Valley Bike Share program in Palm Springs. Cycling is popular Oct–April (mornings only in summer due to heat).
